Known as the Sawatch Range aka the Collegiate Peaks, this area has the highest concentration of “fourteeners” in the state for all your outdoor wilderness ventures. Our backyard is home to Collegiate Peaks Wilderness & Pike/San Isabel National Forests , and almost 80% of Chaffee County is “public lands” and well-known for hiking, backpacking, camping, mountaineering, mountain biking, fishing and whitewater excursions.

The Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area and Browns Canyon National Monument provide any level of whitewater enthusiast with a plethora of opportunities to explore this world-renowned stretch of Class I-IV rapids via raft, kayak or SUP. Not taking a guided trip? Across the bridge from the Slackwater, non-permitted boaters can put in at Wilderness Aware’s boat ramp.

Designated as one of Colorado’s “Gold Medal Waters” for trout fishing, the Slackwater not only has convenient access to some of the state’s best water, but also offers Arkansas River frontage right outside our door as part of the Johnson Village State Wildlife Area (almost a mile of public access). You can have your fly in the water in 5 minutes down a short hiking trail from our property.
